Will I be charged if I miss an appointment?

Psychologists vary in their practice regarding charges for missed or cancelled appointments. Most would prefer not to, but cost relating to running their practice need to be taken into account. The majority of psychologists in private practice would be likely to charge the full fee for a missed appointment where no notice has been given and many would charge on a sliding scale for cancelled appointments, depending upon the amount of notice given. If you don’t know what your therapist’s policy is regarding cancelled appointments, do ask, rather than find yourself with an unexpected bill.

If you have any other questions that are not covered in this information document, you can ask your therapist contact your local psychology department or your GP. Above all, if you are considering seeing a therapist, or are already doing so, do hold in mind the statement at the beginning of this document on page that the role of the clinical psychologist is to ‘help people‘ achieve changes in their lifestyle or habits that can significantly reduce or eliminate the influence of psychologically based problems.’ That is their skill and expertise. ~ You are wished well on that journey.
